Probability PLC: Who Are They?

Probability casinos are all owned by a gambling operator named Probability PLC. The firm was founded back in 2003 and focused on developing casino gaming software for mobile technology including smartphones and tablets for residents in the United Kingdom, Italy, and Gibraltar. The company was a leading pioneer for mobile-compatible casino websites, and Probability’s games were supported by dozens of mobile devices, and they were available in countless languages.

As of 2020, the company no longer exists. Back in 2014, casino game developer and service provider GTECH agreed to a deal to acquire Probability valued then at £17.5 million. Probability CEO Charles Cohen believed that the two companies’ combined knowledge and resources would “drive future growth of our mobile customers”. GTECH, meanwhile, believed that Probability’s expertise regarding mobile gaming would help the company meet the needs of its customers and of the World Lottery Association, an organisation that focuses on state-authorised lotteries around the world.

Around that time, Probability was listed on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange and had been developing new systems to launch in the United States in a bid to expand its audience and grow its market.

A year later, in 2015, GTECH itself was acquired by American gambling company and operator International Game Technology (IGT) for a total of $6.4 billion. The deal was finalised in April 2015 and saw companies GTECH, Probability, and IGT merge into one single entity and take on the new combined name of International Game Technology PLC.

IGT After the Acquisition of Probability Casino Sites

Since the takeover of Probability PLC and its casino sites, IGT PLC has grown significantly. The company, which was initially founded in 1980 as GTECH before it was bought by Lottomatica in 2006 and then by IGT in 2015, has continued to develop and release new casino games and services. Just last year, IGT launched its PlayBingo solution in Norway which allows Norsk punters to enjoy a collection of bingo games and video slots, as well as a selection of mini-games that can be enjoyed during bingo rounds.

It’s also been releasing new casino games. Some of its most recent launches include Coin O Mania, Wheel Of Fortune Hawaiian Getaway PowerBucks, Dancing Phoenix Soaring Dragon, Tiki-Tac-Toe, Griffin’s Throne, Tic-Tac Temple, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and so much more.  IGT’s games and services are all still incredibly successful today and enjoyed by hundreds. Here is a list of casino sites that feature IGT and its games among other operators.

In May this year, IGT, with Probability’s expertise and knowledge, announced an extension of its partnership with FanDuel Group to bring mobile sports betting to the US state of Colorado. At the time of the announcement, the two firms were already working together to provide sports betting services to US customers based in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Indiana.

Probability Games

Probability developed dozens of casino games, most of which were video slots. Some of Probability’s titles include

  • Sliding Magic
  • Terracotta Warrior
  • Sekhmet
  • Norse Fortune
  • Katana Warrior
  • Warrior Goddess
  • Dead Sea Booty
  • The Mirage

These video slots are hard to find now but are still offered at some casino sites such as Fruity King and Grosvenor Casino. They were previously available at big-name gambling websites such as Ladbrokes, William Hill, 888 Casino, and Paddy Power, but it seems the brands have now dropped Probability’s casino games, most likely due to the company’s acquisition.

Compared to the video slots of today which are filled with groundbreaking new features and mesmerising visuals, Probability’s video slots were somewhat basic. They usually only included special features such as Wild substitutions and Scatters that trigger a Free Spins mode but other slots such as Norse Fortune included other features like Stacked symbols which helped increase the probability of making a win.

Unfortunately, although Probability’s video slots all possessed unique themes with fun characters and visuals, they all played the same and didn’t vary much. Despite the lack of gameplay, Probability’s mobile compatibility kept players returning on a frequent basis and are highly regarded for paving the way to mobile-friendly casino content.

The Best Probability Mobile Casinos

Probability PLC ran several notable online casinos that were compatible with mobile devices. The most well-known casino sites were LadyLucks, Mobile Games, and Touch My Bingo. Unfortunately, these casino sites have since shut down and are no longer around since IGT’s acquisition. At the time, they were incredibly popular, particularly in the UK, for allowing users to play how and when they wanted.

These Probability websites were also widely praised for accepting payment methods such as PayPal, Skrill, Paysafecard, and VISA and MasterCard debit and credit cards. They were also some of the few casinos to accept payments with Pay By Phone Bill, reinforcing the fact that Probability PLC was dedicated to ensuring its customers were offered mobile-friendly services and solutions, something a lot of gambling companies now still struggle with.

Although Probability casinos are no longer available, there are still several online casinos that use Probability PLC’s mobile-friendly software; mFortune and Mr Spin. Both of these casinos are operated by In Touch Games Limited and offer a wide selection of casino games developed by their own in-house team. The websites operate in the UK and are highly popular due to their promotions and range of unique content. If you’re interested in learning more about mFortune, check out our in-depth review here.

Probability’s Mobile Market Now

Probability’s push for mobile-friendly content was felt widely across the online gambling market. Over time, other game developers such as NetEnt and Microgaming among many others began to concentrate on making their games mobile-friendly. NetEnt, in particular, began to release ‘touch’ versions of their games to appeal to the mobile audience. Today, all casino games released now are compatible with mobile casinos.

Mobile-Friendly Online Casinos

More and more people are now playing at online casinos with their smartphone devices. This means that most online casinos are now mobile-friendly and can be loaded up in your mobile device’s web browser. These mobile online casino websites can be accessed instantly, which is great for players, and they allow for play whenever. However, a downside to playing on mobile is that some games, usually those that are older, will not be compatible with mobile devices as they were developed with Flash, a tech that is no longer supported on mobiles.

There are other online casinos such as PlayOJO Casino, LeoVegas, Mr Green, and countless others who have gone the extra step and have released dedicated mobile apps which comes with pre-installed games. These apps are great for mobile players who don’t want to have to load up websites each day and, like with mobile games, there are no changes to the probability of winning via these apps!

However, these mobile casino apps do have their disadvantages as it can be time-consuming to change which games are installed with the app. Also, the fact that most online casinos today still don’t offer them can be somewhat disappointing for many readers. Still, they’re highly popular and enjoyed by hundreds of people all around the world. If you are looking to play on mobile devices, you can find the best Android apps and sites right here. We’ve done all the work and found the best mobile-friendly Android casino websites for you!

Are Mobile Games Any Different?

No. In fact, mobile games operate and play in the exact same way their desktop counterparts do. There is no change to the visuals, the gameplay, and the probability of winning or return to Player rate, which you can read more about here. We’ve had some people contact us worried that mobile games have a lower probability of winning compared to those on desktop but this isn’t true. The probability of winning remains the same across all games; both desktop and mobile. This ensures that all players, no matter which device they are using, are given a fair probability of winning when gambling.

There are some special game developers such as Wazdan that have continued to focus on mobile solutions by creating several features to make playing on mobile more fun. Wazdan offers players special features such as the ability to change a game’s volatility level, an ultra-lite mode for those with slow internet, a big screen mode for users who want to dive into the action, and an energy-saving mode for users on portable devices like mobiles. The features have been praised by fans and critics alike for continuing to revolutionise the mobile gambling scene.

With how commonplace browsing the internet and playing games on mobile devices is now, it’s clear to see that Probability PLC was ahead of the curve when it was founded in the early 2000s. The firm essentially helped transform the online gambling industry with its games and solutions. So while the company is technically gone, it’s influence will be felt for a long time.
