William Hill Hires Gordon Wilson to Strengthen US Approach

William Hill has announced the employment of Gordon Wilson as an independent non-executive director commencing from 2nd January 2019. Wilson’s hiring is seen as a further enhancement of the bookmaker’s American approach.

The current Travelport Worldwide President and CEO will become a part of the corporate responsibility and nomination committees of William Hill’s board of directors.

“Gordon brings extensive experience of the development and use of proprietary technology and data at scale on a global basis,” said Roger Devlin, Chairman of William Hill.

Devlin believed Wilson’s experience and knowledge of the US market would add great value to the company, especially when targeting the opportunity offered by the legalisation of sports betting in the States is William Hill’s top priority.

About Travelport Worldwide

Travelport offers real-time flight, hotel and car bookings for travel industries around the world. The company also provides mobile apps and technology services to a number of airlines, including EasyJet, Emirates, Virgin Atlantic and Delta.

Travelport also holds most of the shares of eNett, a travel payments provider also chaired by Wilson. eNett is said to be “the leading cross border international commercial payments business operating in the travel industry”.

Wilson commented on his new role at William Hill: “It is a fascinating time to join the board of William Hill, and I look forward to bringing my experience to the table to play a part in the ongoing growth of the business.”

More Changes within Board of Directors

Meanwhile, Sir Roy Gardener, William Hill’s senior independent non-executive director, is to step down from the board of directors starting from 20th November 2018.

“We thank Roy for his extensive contribution to William Hill since joining the board in 2014, a period which had substantial change. Most recently, Roy led the board’s process to appoint a new chairman,” said Devlin.
