Online Bingo Sites vs. Bingo Halls

Bingo is a hugely popular game that especially in the UK and US. One reason people like playing Bingo is because it’s an easy game that doesn’t involve any strategy or skill. Bingo reportedly dates back to an Italian lottery from the 1530s called Le Lotto.

However, some historians have claimed that Bingo originated in the early 1900s after New York toy salesman Edwin S. Lowe discovered a game called Beano which was played at county fairs. Back then, a dealer would select numbered discs and players would mark their cards with beans before shouting “Beano” if they had scored all numbers.

Lowe brought the game home and played it with a group of friends. However, one of them shouted “Bingo” rather than “Beano”, and so Lowe decided to name the game Bingo. It’s thought that bingo spread across the US before landing in the UK.

UK Bingo

Bingo Games in the UK are somewhat different from their US counterparts. The UK versions feature 90-balls compared to the 75 used in America. A typical Bingo Game scorecard in the UK features 27 numbered spaces organised into three rows and nine columns. The first columns contain three numbers between one and nine, the second column contains three numbers between 10 and 19 and so on.

Dealers will use a Bingo machine, or an RNG if playing online, to select numbered balls which are called out to the various players. Anyone playing will then mark their number on the scorecard. UK Bingo Games play for one line across, then two and then all three, which is generally referred to as a “full house”.

Bingo Halls and Casinos

In the UK, Bingo is generally seen as a social gathering rather than gambling. Most games are played at privately owned Bingo halls across the country, though many of them have begun shutting down.

Bingo halls were hugely popular in the UK throughout the 90s and early 2000s. However, the surge in popularity of online casinos has caused many people to stop visiting them. According to reports, around 200 Bingo halls closed between 2005 and January 2014.

But what’s better, real-life Bingo halls or Online Bingo Sites?

Real-Life Bingo Halls

Many people prefer real-life Bingo halls due to the sense of community they create. Real-life Bingo halls offer players a unique experience as they can interact with each other and feel the excitement build amongst each other as the game continues.

As mentioned above, many people visit Bingo halls for a social gathering, bringing their friends with them to have a fun day out.

Bingo Sites UK

While Online Bingo Sites don’t offer a physical sense of community, they still offer chat rooms or messaging systems allowing players to chat to each other as the game progresses. Also, they offer much more than real-life Bingo halls, and we believe players will get a much better experience by playing online.

For example, Online Bingo halls feature a much wider range of games. There will be different varieties to play, each having different rules or gameplay to follow and this will keep players interested for longer. Online Bingo Games will also offer better promotions, bonuses, and prizes which many people enjoy.

One of the many reasons people prefer Bingo websites over real-life halls is because they can play whenever and wherever they want. They don’t need to travel to the real-life Bingo halls to play; they can pick up their laptop, PC, smartphone or tablet device and start playing!

Ultimately, whatever you think is better will depend entirely on whether you prefer a social experience, or the ability to win more, play whenever you want and play different variations of bingo. Both real-life and online bingo halls have positive and negative aspects, it’s just up to you to decide which is better.
